Away in a manger

Away in a manger no crib for a bed,
The little boy Jesus lay down his sweet head.
The stars in the sky looked down where he lay,
The little boy Jesus asleep in the hay.

He grew up a small boy, both sinless and pure,
The holy-one Christ-child an angry worlds cure.
He was pure and holy the Bible does say,
Though hated and murdered, he still did obey.

He walked along seashores and deserts as well,
He paid for our sorrows and saved us from hell.
Humble and submissive he knew Fathers will,
To be Israel's scapegoat his blood must be spilled.

With blood, sweat, and tears he gave so much more,
He took the diseases of the lost and the poor.
Humilities secret he laid down his life,
To seek and save a world so lost in its strife.

Away in a manger, Messiah was born.
He hung on a cross, both bloodied and torn.
The little boy Jesus did lay down his life.
To bring peace and freedom and take away strife.
